Fiction Writing to Sell, part 1
Proposed workshop
We will take the novel from the basic which side of the page do I start on, through the opening and chapter ending hooks and learn necessary formatting clear through the novel to the marketing and proper presentation to an agent or editor for representing or hopefully publishing. If you hope to be successful in today’s highly competitive market, the manuscript has to be near perfect in structure and presentation to even stand a chance of acceptance. You will learn how those necessary elements work together to greatly enhance chances of acceptance and lessen the chance of rejection.
This workshop is a condensed version of the course I’ve taught for more than twenty years through the Continuing Ed department of Lamar Univ, in Beaumont, Texas and other area schools and at writer’s conferences nationally. Although the title is fiction writing, we will touch on nonfiction as well.
You will learn about characterization and how to develop the character(s) to fit the plot. We will cover proper use of dialogue and how to make your character believable. You will learn the all important scene and sequel structure development and how to keep your plot moving and the reader interested. You will find how to structure for conflict which is the life blood of a novel. The workshop will address the showing through the character and not simply telling the story and viewpoint writing to keep your characters on track toward their goal.
In the marketing portion, you will learn some of the tricks of the trade for submission of work and how important is an agent for the writer and whether you need one or not. We also will learn how to make the critical brief pitch to the editor or agent.
This workshop is not trying to be a be-all-end-all, but to introduce the writer to all the vital elements which go into an acceptable manuscript and lessen the chances of receiving a rejection instead of a coveted acceptance. What do you need to bring? An open mind and something to take notes with.
LEARN FROM A PRO THE DO'S AND DON'TS, AND PROPER FORMAT TO SELL THE STORY YOUR HEART IS TELLING...See you there!
