Tammy D. Thompson
Letter From Tammy
Poetry has been my passion since was very young and I would like to share some of my poetry with you. Although I have seven books out, I have yet to have a poetry book published. It's ironic, but at the same time, I think it's because I carry those precious words so close to my heart, I don't want to let go. Enjoy my words of prose and I hope it touches your heart.

DREAM A DREAM
When you dream a dream from within the heart
A dream you chase each day...
It becomes the dream that's meant for you
No matter what anyone may say.
If you dream to be a writer,
Let your words fly free...
And if you dream to sing your songs
It's a dream that will be.
When you dream a dream from within the soul
A deeply desired thought...
It' something more precious than anything
Something that can't be bought.
So dream your dreams and so believe
In the you, you want to be.
It will come true, because of you...
Because you did believe
IF HE ONLY KNEW
To My son
At first his hands fit in mine
And day by day he grows.
My only little one, my heart
As everybody knows.
He starts to walk and talk so well
As the days pass by too fast.
And I know deep inside me
These days will not last.
Then growing up, my little one
Is no longer a baby I see.
The one I gave my all to
He'll be what he will be.
Finally years have flown by
And grown I see him now
Mistakes he's made...I see it
But I can't help somehow.
Now I have to step aside
And hope God hears me pray.
From the little one I held
To the man he is today.
Nights I spend so worried
For him to be safe and strong.
From the day I had this angel
It doesn't seem so long.
But now he's not mine to keep
And choices made are his alone.
I can't imagine living life
Without my little one, so gone.
So I send out a huge request
To our God almighty above
That he never forget back then
And how much he is loved.
But I can't make dicisions
For the child that's now a man
I just hope he realizes life is short
And for what's right, you should take a stand.
For family is the single tie
That surely bonds us all.
And in family comes a safety net
One to catch us when we fall.
So please answer this simple prayer
One to please keep him well
Even when I am not around...
In your presence he will dwell.
At first his hands fit in mine
And day by day he grew.
My only little one, my heart
If he only knew.
THE FIRST THING
TAKEN AWAY
Each minute, each hour
Passes like a flash of lightning and so never to look back,
For the way each second is spent
Means more than all the stars which hover above,
And the more we spend loving
Is only more for us to look back on and smile.
Instead of seeing what could've been done
And what hours could've been filled with laughter
Instead of overflowing tears of pain.
A year can flash as if were never here at all
And a lifetime is seldom seen
Until we slip and take a fall.
So cherish the light that awakens you
In the midst of the early dawn.
And remember the light that was there one minute
Is soon taken away the next.
Never take for granted
Tomorrow will bring new flowers and beautiful skies.
Never wait to tell someone how you truly feel in your heart...
For when you think time is all you have
Sometimes it's the first thing taken away.
“WHAT I THINK OF ME”
Amidst the many faces staring
At who I am and want to be…
I’m unsure of the person
That these many faces see.
Am I just the writer
Among many of my kind.
Or am I a soul lost and weary
In search, but never find.
Amidst the many faces
Whose eyes do stare my way
What do those glares and expressions mean?
What exactly do they say?
Do they see the one whose words are art
Do they see a heart so bold,
Or do they see my insecurities
That I constantly dare to hold.
For I’m not really sure just what
These strangers and friends the same,
See when they look at me
Or even speak my name.
Amidst the many faces staring
At who I am, but now I see…
What other’s think doesn’t matter much
As what I think of me.
FEATURED POEM
HIS NAME
by Tammy D. Thompson
Wretched dirty, clothes so worn
Hair long and tangled grey…
Eyes sunk back and full of pain
With no words to say.
Many walk around him,
With disgust shown on their face.
No thoughts of how he ended there
With such a look of disgrace.
In a tone of low, he muttered
“Can you help an old man?”
But as I stood there watching
No one lended a helping hand.
Finally, with no more hesitation
One step, then two, I took…
With a smile I reached for my wallet
As many peopled looked.
Giving what I could to him,
I said, “What is your name.”
Looking away for a second, and
he was gone.
For now I’ll never be the same.
Wretched dirty, clothes so worn
Hair long and tangled grey…
I learned a lesson clean to my heart
On that unforgettable day.
For still I’m not sure what happened,
But it doesn’t matter just the same,
With a smile, I close my eyes
For I think I know his name.
