POEM OF THE WEEK

"The First Thing Taken Away"

by

Tammy D. Thompson

Each minute, each hour

Passes like a flash of lightning and so never to look back,

For the way each second is spent

Means more than all the stars which hover above,

And the more we spend loving

Is only more for us to look back on and smile.

Instead of seeing what could've been done

And what hours could've been filled with laughter

Instead of overflowing tears of pain.

A year can flash as if were never here at all

And a lifetime is seldom seen

Until we slip and take a fall.

So cherish the light that awakens you

In the midst of the early dawn.

And remember the light that was there one minute

Is soon taken away the next.

Never take for granted

Tomorrow will bring new flowers and beautiful skies.

Never wait to tell someone how you truly feel in your heart...

For when you think time is all you have

Sometimes it's the first thing taken away.

This poem is dedicated to my second dad who passed away Sept. 26, 2005.  He always treated everyone with love and respect.  He knew what life was all about.  He treated me like I was his own daughter.  I never felt second best.  His influence on me will last a lifetime.  So to Rodney Mack Boren, I'll always remember your loving nature and I'll never forget what you taught me about life.  You always lead me down the right path.  I love you dad...Tammy
