PICTURES FROM 2010 EVENT

PLACE:  Texarkana Arkansas - Four States Fairgrounds

This Fall Gathering of Authors will be bigger and better than the ones before.  Our main goal is to focus on Regional authors as well as some authors coming a great distance to be here and Supporting a wonderful Charity ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S RESEARCH HOSPITAL.  From having activities for the kids such as a "Kid's Corner" - FOOD - Many door Prizes to listening to writers you may not have known about before, this is a far cry from any arts and craft show.  This is an event with Substance and Purpose.  All money taken in from ticket, T-Shirts sales and other things lined up will go straight to our Charity.  Not part of it...ALL OF IT!  We're here to make a difference:

OUR GOAL:  To bring awareness to the importance of literacy starting with kids all the way up.  We want to encourage all of the kids involved along with their families, to know the importance of words and learning.  The more a child reads, the more his mind is expanded.  That goes for everyone.    We're also making this happen so that authors in and around our area get recognized in a way they never have been before.  We have writers here in our midst that are just as good as those many famous writers out there, but never got the same chance.  This is their chance to shine.   People in the past who attended have found their new "FAVORITE AUTHOR"  That's why we do what we do.

KID'S WRITING CONTEST

Kids will also be a priority.  For those interested in this, you might want to get your kids started writing now.  We are planning another Kid's "CREATIVE WRITING" Story Contest.  Last year we had some really great stories entered and the winners were unforgettable.  The Theme for this years story contest is the same as last year, but there are lots of stories that can be written in such a theme.

THEME:  Write a 300 word or less story using two characters interacting.  It can be two animals, a person and animal, or two best friends on a journey.  Regardless, two characters.  THEN set these characters in your favorite season of the year.  In the way the setting is described, it has to be obvious whether it is Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring.  This is a wide margin as far as how many stories can be written.  START WRITING NOW & GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!  Deadline is Oct. 3rd.  Entries can be emailed to Tammy at gatheringofauthors@yahoo.com with subject line story contest entrant. 

Each entrant must have his/her name, parents name, address, phone, school and grade on it so we can contact you.

For kids from 3rd - 6th grades

1st & 2nd Prize will be given away for each grade.
