Dream Mountain

  Set in the early 50’s, the Cole family lives in a way that most lived at that time. Money was scarce, and most folks just had the necessities. They were country to say the least, but that’s not where it stopped. Elizabeth (Lizzy) Cole, the main charactor of "Dream Mountain," had a dream. Looking up at the mountain that was clearly visible from her rickety front porch, she believed that colossal mound God created, was nothing less than magical. Oddly enough, instead of picking out a star from the sky to wish upon, she’d look up at that massive hill, and wish over and over for things she didn’t have. Then, little by little, day after day, she didn’t have a clue what would happen next.

    A mysterious stranger walks into her life, unannounced, but still, to Lizzy’s liking.  After that, it seemed one wish after another began to come true, except for one. She’d found someone who loved her, whom she loved just the same, but her clothes were still ragged and she still lived in an old cabin they had all learned to call home. Then again, what has money got to do with anything? With many surprises, and totally pure as in the ways of that time, Lizzy learns one lesson she’ll never forget. That mountain she gazes at each night, just might have some power, but there’s something that has even more power than that...the unknown. In the end, she realizes, along with her family, what a dream really feels like as it becomes a reality.  And no matter what, to Lizzy, that amazing sight she looks at constantly, would always be her dream mountain... nothing more... nothing less

    A compelling continuance to the first book Dream Mountain, the Cole family continues on with their lives.  Once again, the patience of the characters is tried tremendously, helping them to realize what’s most important.  Is it love, money, or something else? This simple, country-folk of the fifties, go through changes beyond anything they ever dreamed. That’s when reality slaps them in the face. Lizzy’s so-called dream, turns into a nightmare, leaving her only two places to turn to--prayer and the mountain she loved so much. With the thought that miracles do happen, this family sits and waits to see if, once more, the mountain’s power will come alive again.  It is said that change is good, but sometimes, it confuses the mind and dictates the future without control.  In this book, this family pulls together and turns a crisis into a miracle. In that, the truth is seen, and the power of love and family, is no longer taken for granted, but treasured instead.  In the end, it goes to show, there’s nothing more powerful than the power of love, and also, that dreams are only dreams, until you make them a reality.

Picking up the story from A Dream Come True, it remains an in intriguingly simple, but complicated continuance of the life the Cole family lives, following along emotionally as many changes affect each character.

    Just as Lizzy felt the mountain proclaimed so much power, Betty Jean starts to wonder the same thing. One thing after another, her life seems to be spinning in circles, enough to where she’s not sure which direction to go. A terrible trauma leaves her wondering is another day even worth the living. Then when all seems hopeless, a little light shows through in the darkest time in her life, revealing to her that things can get better. With that thought, the healing of her emotional wounds begin. She learns that there are no lessons learned more powerful than lessons of the heart.
